This free\, guided evening walk blends history\, nature\, and community\, taking you through downtown St. John’s\, the charming Battery neighbourhood\, and up to the summit where panoramic views of the harbour and Atlantic await. \nAt the top\, we’ll gather for light refreshments and watch the sun set over the city and ocean together. \nAlong the way\, you’ll discover the cultural and natural richness of Newfoundland and Labrador — from historic architecture and colourful streets to the chance to spot whales\, seabirds\, and even icebergs offshore. This is more than a hike — it’s a chance to feel at home in St. John’s. \n \nEvent Details: \nDate: Friday\, July 11 \nTime: 6:30 PM \nMeeting point: O’Brien’s Park & Memorial \nDistance: 5 km total \nDuration: 2.5–3 hours \nDifficulty: Moderate (uphill) \nMeeting point address: Intersection of Signal Hill Rd. & Battery Rd.\, across from The Battery Cafe. \nPlease arrive 10 minutes early. \n \nWhy join this: \nThis event is part of Bloom\, Amal Unite & Empower’s wellness program designed to help newcomers connect\, recharge\, and feel at home in Newfoundland and Labrador. Whether you’re new to St. John’s or have lived here for years\, this hike is a welcoming space to build friendships\, explore your community\, and experience the natural beauty that makes this province so special. \n\nMeet other newcomers and community members in a relaxed\, outdoor setting\nLearn about the history and culture of St. John’s and Signal Hill\nEnjoy light refreshments at the summit with stunning sunset views\nContinue socializing downtown after the hike (optional)\nLight refreshments will be provided at the summit.\n\n \nWhat to bring: \n\nSturdy walking shoes\nWater bottle\nLayers / light jacket\nSunscreen\nBug spray\nCamera or phone\n\n \nWeather contingency: If conditions are unsafe (heavy rain\, high winds\, or poor visibility)\, the hike will be cancelled\, and participants will be invited to an indoor social gathering.
