Our Approach to Workforce Development
Our work spans three connected streams: we support newcomer integration, partner with industry to foster inclusive hiring and retention, and offer wellness programming to create lasting impact. Together, these streams advance diversity, retain talent, and strengthen equity and inclusion across Newfoundland and Labrador’s workforce.
Employer & Industry Engagement
We work directly with employers and recruiters to connect them with skilled, work-ready newcomer talent already living in NL. Our services are completely free and built around your workforce needs. This includes recruitment support, onboarding guidance, workplace wellness, cultural awareness training, DEI consultations — and our Connector Program, which pairs newcomers with local professionals to build confidence and industry connections.

Our team supports newcomers living in NL with career coaching, group employment sessions, networking opportunities, language skills development, community resources and wellness support to help them find and keep meaningful work.

Wellness & Mental Health Support
Our free wellness and community integration initiative, Bloom, offers nature-based activities, art-based sessions, peer support groups, and drop-in social spaces for newcomers in Newfoundland and Labrador.
About Amal
Unite & Empower
We’re a province-wide workforce development program launched in 2024 by Amal Youth and Family Centre. We provide free, wraparound support to newcomers as they prepare for employment. We also work hand-in-hand with employers to build stronger, more inclusive and equitable workplaces. We believe that workplace inclusion and community connection are essential to long-term success for newcomers, businesses, and the province as a whole.
By supporting the employment and retention of newcomer talent already in Newfoundland and Labrador, we’re helping to address workforce gaps, strengthen industry, and build more resilient communities. We’re building a future for Newfoundland and Labrador where newcomer talent is recognized, supported, and retained.
