Connector Program

Empowering Newcomers, Strengthening Our Community

This Canada – wide initiative, active in over 32 communities, connects skilled newcomers with local professionals to help them integrate into the local job market. By quickly expanding their professional networks and creating ties to the community, we aim to foster community and economic growth in Newfoundland and Labrador.

How it works

The Connector concept is simple and powerful. It engages community and business leaders (Connectors) to help newcomers (Connectees) build professional networks.

The process

Benefits

For Connectees, the program offers a chance to settle into the community, gain valuable job advice, and tap into hidden job markets. They also get to meet industry insiders and take part in engaging networking opportunities.

For Connectors, the program offers a way to enhance their corporate social responsibility, give back to the community, and support local talent development. It allows them to open doors for newcomers, help them set down roots in the community, and contribute to a diverse and inclusive environment. Additionally, Connectors gain access to a pool of pre-qualified job seekers, benefiting their industry and workforce.

Our Connectors

FAQ

How much of my time does it take?

Just 30 minutes for the initial meeting, followed by a few quick email introductions and an optional follow-up chat a couple of weeks later. In total, being a Connector usually takes under 90 minutes per Connectee.

What do I have to do?

 • Accept the match from the Amal Unite & Empower team• Meet with your Connectee (virtual or in-person)• Share your experience, advice, and insights• Introduce them to 3 people in your network• (Optional) Follow up once to see how they’re doing

Who are the Connectees?

They’re skilled Newcomers who have recently moved to Newfoundland and Labrador and are job-ready professionals in your field or a related one. Many are internationally educated, highly motivated, and eager to grow their networks.

Do I have to be a mentor?

No. This program isn’t mentorship. Think of it like helping a friend-of-a-friend navigate your industry. You don’t need to provide job offers, solve problems, or meet multiple times.

Why does this matter?

Building professional networks is one of the biggest barriers for newcomers trying to find meaningful work. Your one introduction could be the start of someone’s future in this province.

How many newcomers will I be matched with?
Is there a cost to participate in the Connector Program?
