Connecting employers who are hiring with people ready to work

Amal Unite & Empower organizes targeted hiring events with employers across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Unlike a traditional job fair, each hiring event is connected to specific job openings. We help employers identify qualified candidates, prepare job seekers for the opportunity, and coordinate scheduled interviews in person or online.

What is a hiring event?

A hiring event is a focused and organized approach to recruitment.

We work with employers to understand the positions they need to fill, including the role, location, schedule, qualifications and experience required. We then promote the opportunity, review applications, prepare qualified candidates and bring employers and job seekers together for scheduled interviews. Some hiring events are organized for one employer and one type of role. Others may include several employers with different opportunities. The positions, locations, requirements and application deadlines are different for every event, so always review the individual event posting before applying.

This model is based on the hiring-event approach developed by Jumpstart Refugee Talent and adapted for the employers and communities we serve in Newfoundland and Labrador.
For Job Seekers
FOR JOB SEEKERS

A clearer path from application to interview.

At a traditional job fair, you may enter a busy room, wait to speak with employers and have only a few minutes to introduce yourself. You may not know which employers are actively hiring or whether anyone will follow up afterward.
A hiring event is different.
You apply for a specific opportunity before the event. If your background matches the employer’s requirements and the employer selects you, you receive a scheduled interview time. Before the interview, our team helps you understand the role, strengthen your application and prepare to speak confidently about your experience.
On the day of the event, someone from AUE is expecting you and is available to support you before and after your interview.

How the Process Works

You submit an Expression of Interest.
Our team reviews your application against the employer’s requirements. We may contact you to learn more about your experience.
Candidates who meet the requirements may receive support with their resume and application.
The employer decides which candidates they would like to interview.
We follow up after the event and let you know about the next steps when information is available.
You attend your scheduled interview in person or online.
Invited candidates attend a mandatory interview-preparation session.
Submitting an Expression of Interest does not guarantee an interview. Interview spaces are limited, and the employer makes the final decision about which candidates they would like to meet.
You do not need to be registered with AUE to apply. Anyone who is eligible for the advertised position can submit an Expression of Interest. If this is your first time working with us, visit our For Job Seekers page to learn about our other newcomer employment services.

What you can expect from us

  • A fair review of your application against the advertised requirements
  • Support strengthening your resume and application, when applicable
  • Interview preparation if you are invited to meet the employer
  • An opportunity to practise how you will talk about your skills and experience
  • Support from the AUE team on the interview day
  • Follow-up information about your application or next steps
  • Access to other AUE employment services and opportunities

Before you apply

  • Read the full event posting and position requirements.
  • Apply as early as possible. We may close an Expression of Interest form early if we receive a high number of applications.
  • Make sure your contact information and resume are current.
  • Watch your email and phone for communication from our team.
  • If you are selected for an interview, you must attend the preparation session.
  • Hiring events are invitation-only. Interview times and locations are shared directly with invited candidates, and there is no drop-in registration on the event day.
