April 23 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Learn how to work as a background extra in NL’s film industry. Discover set etiquette, expectations, and gain practical acting experience.

Lights, Camera… Background! 🎬

Join us for an interactive Acting Workshop: How to Be a Background Extra, designed for newcomers and anyone interested in exploring opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing film industry.

No acting experience required.

This practical session will introduce you to the world of background performance (extras)—one of the most accessible ways to get your first experience working on film and TV productions.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:

🎬 What to expect when arriving on a film set
🎬 Set etiquette and professional behaviour
🎬 How to follow directions from assistant directors
🎬 The basics of continuity and staying consistent between takes
🎬 How wardrobe, timing, and call sheets work
🎬 How to act naturally and convincingly in the background of a scene

Event details:

📅 Date: Thursday, April 23rd
🕕 Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
📍 Location: 7 Ricketts Road

Participants will also take part in guided exercises, practicing natural movement, reacting authentically in filmed environments, and learning how to blend seamlessly into a scene without drawing focus.

Whether you’re interested in acting, curious about the film industry, or looking for new entry-level work opportunities, this workshop will give you practical insights, confidence, and the tools to get started.
